Our Founders’ Story
Healing Parts Therapy was shaped not just by clinical training, but by lived experience, shared values, and a deep respect for the complexity of the human nervous system.
Where This Work Began
Our professional journey began while on assignment in Alaska, where we quickly discovered a shared passion for exploration — both of the world around us and the inner experiences that shape how people survive and adapt. While the beauty of the environment was striking, it was the unpredictability — isolation, harsh conditions, long periods of darkness — that deepened our understanding of resilience, nervous system adaptation, and the importance of safety and trust.
How Those Experiences Shaped Us
Those early experiences reinforced something we see every day in therapy: people adapt in remarkable ways to challenging environments, and those adaptations make sense in context. At Healing Parts Therapy, this understanding informs how we work — with curiosity instead of judgment, patience instead of pressure, and respect for the protective strategies people develop to survive.
What Guides Our Work
At Healing Parts Therapy, our work is guided by a few core principles that shape how we show up with clients and how we think about healing:
Emotional safety first.
Healing begins when people feel safe enough to slow down, notice their inner experience, and speak honestly without fear of being judged or pushed.
A non-pathologizing view of symptoms.
We understand symptoms as meaningful adaptations rather than signs of brokenness. Each response developed for a reason, and therapy focuses on understanding those reasons with curiosity and respect.
Pacing that honors the nervous system.
We do not rush insight, emotional exposure, or trauma processing. Therapy moves at a pace that supports regulation, stability, and long-term change rather than short-term intensity.
Collaboration and consent.
Clients are active participants in their therapy. We believe healing is most effective when it is collaborative, transparent, and grounded in choice.
Depth without overwhelm.
Our approach allows for meaningful, transformative work without pressure to relive the past or move faster than feels safe. Healing can be both deep and gentle.
